How Turbo System Works..

When we talk about TURBO,most of the people perception towards this term is Power..but how many of us really understand how this turbo system works for our vehicle..In today modern world, the automobile technology become more Advance and Hi Tech..Some of the vehicle on the road are already been equipped with turbo system since they roll out from the showroom such as commercial vehicle,4 wheels drive cars and sport performance race cars.

The Turbo system consist of a turbocharger that are a type of forced induction system which work like an air pump, they compress the air flowing into the engine at higher than ambient pressure called boost ( higher pressure=higher boost=higher power ),when more air is squeeze into the cylinder, that's mean more fuel can be added into the cylinder as well, therefore we get more power from each explosion in each cylinder.

1.The turbo turbine is move by the waste exhaust gases which the turbine is connected to a compressor, the air is drawn into the compressor housing by the rotating turbine at the speed of 200,000 RPM via air filter. We might feel a sudden pull in the speed when the turbo system start to work.

-Sequential Turbo System

2.When the air is compressed,it heats up,when air heats up,it expand resulting the air become less denser than the cooler air or in other words warm air has less molecules than the cold air.So to avoid this to happen, the intercooler or charge air cooler(normally fit at the back of the car front bumper) come into play which help to cool down the compress air before it is send into the combustion chamber.

When come across to the selection of the intercooler, there are few things we might take into consideration like the size of the intercooler we need, the bigger intercooler need bigger turbocharger,If we use smaller turbocharger for bigger intercooler, the smaller turbocharger might not have enough strength and may be take more time to compress the air through the bigger space in the intercooler to the intake manifold although the turbocharger RPM already reach it peak. This resulting in Turbo Lag.

Those are just a simple explanation on how the turbo system works..when come to the modification of the turbo system, there are a lots knowledge needed and add on after market accessory to be consider like size of turbo, blow off valve, wastegate, headblock gasket, engine internal parts etc etc..not easy to well keep and maintain the turbo engine..so might need a serious consideration when getting a turbo car..
